More and more people are starting to have a hard time getting by during these rough economic times. If one of your children is having a hard time, you may have to decide whether to let them come back home. Before you and your partner decide, you will need to discuss it with each other.

First, you both have to take into account why your child may be forced to move back home. It would be the right thing to do to allow them back if they got laid off from work or suffered an injury. If your child simply refuses to work however, teaching them a lesson may be a good idea.

You'll also need to consider whether your child has other options. If they're working, they should be able to afford their own place. Getting a roommate to live with them is also another option so they'll have someone to help pay bills.

One of the next things to consider is whether or not you have the room necessary to house your child. If worst comes to worst, then your child may be forced to sleep on the couch.

Don't let your child move back in for an unspecified period of time. Moving back in and staying for a few years isn't a good option. Time may fly by and they will have been staying there for a few years in no time.

If your child is unable to find a job, they may not be able to help you out much around the home financially. You'll have someone else to be responsible for feeding once they move in. You and your spouse need to think about whether you can afford the extra costs.

Once you've come to the decision to let your child stay, then you'll at least need to come up with a few rules to live by. Charging rent may also be a good idea. Having your child do some of the chores around the home is a good idea, especially if they don't have a job.
